   Rolex launched the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller gold steel model (a combination of Oystersteel and 18ct yellow gold). This is the first time that the Sea-Dweller series is made of 18ct yellow gold.

   The ‘Sea-Dweller’ is engraved in yellow on the black dial and complements the 18ct gold used in the watch. For its 2017 model, ‘Sea-Dweller’ is engraved on the dial in red font, in honor of the first sea-dweller watch. The sea-dweller is equipped with a unidirectional rotating outer ring and a 60-minute graduated black Cerachrom ceramic word ring. The sides of the case and the lugs reflect a light sheen, which makes the 43 mm oyster case more prominent and more attractive.

   The new model is equipped with 3235 movement, a leading watchmaking technology. Like all Rolex watches, the new Sea-Dweller is certified by the Super Observatory Precision Timepiece to ensure that the watch can perform at its best when worn.

Underwater exploration tools

   Rolex has been working closely with professional deep-sea diving pioneers who have long-term underwater operations and have extensive experience in deep diving. The design and development of the sea-dweller is based on this close cooperation. This extremely sturdy tool watch has accompanied divers in the first submarine habitation experiment program, which is of great significance in the human journey to challenge the deep sea. With a sturdy oyster case and also thanks to Rolex’s innovative patent, a helium exhaust valve placed on the side of the case, the water resistance of this watch has been increased from the original 610 meters (2,000 feet) to 1,220 meters in 1978 (4,000 feet).

Oyster Case and Helium Exhaust Valve

   The sea-dwelling oyster-shaped case guarantees a water-resistant depth of 1,220 meters (4,000 feet), and is a solid example of reliability. The middle case is made of a solid piece of oystersteel and is difficult to corrode. Rolex watchmakers use the brand’s exclusive tools to tighten the fine pitted bottom cover to seal the case, so only Rolex watchmakers can access the movement. The winding crown is equipped with a triple lock triple waterproof system, which is firmly screwed to the case. The crown shoulders are integrated into the middle case to protect the winding crown. The mirror is made of sapphire and is not easy to scratch. A small window convex lens at 3 o’clock makes it easy to read the calendar. The sea-dwelling waterproof oyster case gives the highest precision movement protection.

   Helium Exhaust Valve is a safety valve developed and patented by Rolex in 1967. When the diver decompresses in the high-pressure chamber, the helium exhaust valve will release the excessive pressure accumulated inside the case, while ensuring that the watch is effectively waterproof.

   The new Rolex Sea-Dweller is equipped with a unidirectional rotating outer ring and a 60-minute graduated black Cerachrom ceramic word ring, allowing divers to master their diving and decompression time to ensure safety. Die-cast scales and numbers are plated with gold using PVD (PhysicalVapourDeposition) coating technology. The toothed outer ring facilitates gripping and allows divers to comfortably set the dive time even when they are wearing gloves.

   The new Sea-Dweller is equipped with a caliber 3235, a new generation of movement developed and manufactured by Rolex. The self-winding movement is equipped with a number of patents, fully reflecting Rolex’s innovative technology and cutting-edge watchmaking technology, and has been further improved in terms of precision and reliability, power reserve, anti-seismic and anti-magnetic, and convenient use. Perfection.

   The 3235 movement is equipped with Rolex’s patented Chronergy escapement. The escapement is made of nickel-phosphorus, which is not only efficient and reliable, but also immune to magnetic interference. The movement is equipped with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring, made of a unique paramagnetic alloy cast by Rolex. Its shock resistance is ten times higher than that of a traditional hairspring. The blue Parachrom hairspring is equipped with a Rolex end ring to ensure that the hairspring can maintain regularity in any position. The balance spring component of the movement is equipped with a high-performance Paraflex cushioning device designed and patented by Rolex to improve the shock resistance of the movement.

   The 3235 movement is equipped with a permanent automatic winding component, and the movement is wound by a permanent rotor. The structure of the barrel and the excellent efficiency of the escapement increase the power reserve of the 3235 movement to about 70 hours.

Certificate of Excellence in Observatory Precision Timepieces

   Like all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller is certified by Rolex in 2015. This unique title proves that the watch has successfully passed a series of tests by Rolex Labs and goes beyond the conventions and standards of watchmaking. The watch is tested only after it has been assembled to ensure that when it is worn, it can excel in all aspects of precision, power reserve, water resistance and automatic winding. The Rolex Super Chronometer precision timepiece, which is tested after the movement is installed in the case, has an average error of less than two seconds per day, which is more than twice as accurate as the average observatory-certified precision timepiece.

Oyster strap and oyster safety clasp

   This sea-dweller was paired with an oyster strap introduced in the late 1930s. The Oyster bracelet is a three-link metal bracelet that is sturdy and reliable.

   The new watch is equipped with an oyster strap with a patented folding oyster safety buckle designed by Rolex to prevent the buckle from accidentally opening. The strap is also equipped with a Rolex Glidelock extension system designed and patented by Rolex. This innovative rack system is hidden under the buckle cover and requires no tools. It is gradually extended by about 2 mm per grid, up to about 20 mm. This watch can be worn outside a wetsuit up to 3 mm thick.

   Concealed ear caps ensure a seamless visual effect between the strap and case.
